The plural of the word Shar-Pei is not Shar-Peis...the correct usage in either the plural or singular is Shar- Pei ( no "s").
The first top showdog/ stud dog in the history of this breed was CSPCA Champion Shir Du Bang. He lived past 12 years of age..and at age ten years he was certified as OFA excellent.
The Shar-Pei and the Chow are the only 2 dog breeds in the world that possess the blue colored tongue. Several other animals also have blue tongues including a breed of monkey and the Polar Bear.
The first Shar-Pei registered in the United States bred by Matgo Law of Down Homes Kennel in Hong Kong. The dog's name was Down Homes China Souel ( 10/21/73) Her sire was Down Homes Sweet Pea and her dam was Down Homes Ann Revival. Down Homes Sweet Pea was a flowered Shar-Pei.
Golds Black Magic bred by Gayle Gold who founded Gold's Kennel of North Carolina was a "double dominate black" In otherwards, no matter what color Shar-Pei was bred to Black Magic all the offspring were black.
CSPCA Champion Walnut Lane's Rick of Poo was a bearcoat.
The foundation dogs said to be responsible in producing the first ever blue Shar-Pei was once owned by William Morrison, one of the founding fathers of the breed in the US. They were Tai li of Tai li and Shouson. This combination when doubled up both sides of the pedigree produced CSPCA Champion ZL's Blue Genes..
Tai li of Tai li was the only Shar-Pei ever exported out of the Peoples Republic of China to come to the United States and was a gift to Bill Morrison. Morrison later sold Tai li of Tai li and Shouson as a pair to Zell Llewellyn of Texas.
